My Letter to the Editor

In case you were missing your juicy Editorials this week in the Horizon, I wrote one in response to the article last week about all the professors and students who are using alternate transportation. I think you might find it quite enjoyable.

Dear Editor,

I was quite pleased to read the article last week about the professors and faculty members who use alternate means to get around. As a cyclist myself, it is nice to know that there is more awareness on our campus about global issues such as climate change. With that being said, I would like to point out something your article highlighted that I have noticed over the past months that warrants response. I understand using a bike to get from your home to work or from campus to downtown. What I don’t understand is using your bike to get around on campus when you live on campus. Is there some kind of pedestrian pollution I am unaware of? Yes, I understand a love for cycling, but is riding from upper to lower campus on common pedestrian pathways necessary when you live on campus? Let’s remember that walking is a valiant effort in saving the earth too. Let’s remember that to part the crowd that is walking to chapel for the bike you refuse to dismount is sending a message and I don’t think it is a positive one. I believe the phrase “get off your high horse” could be taken quite literally here.

Cheers,

@sarajunior
